11 Little Ways You Can Treat Yourself This Winter

Winter in Scotland can be a cold, dark affair that seems to go on forever. However, it doesn’t have to feel that way. There may be a chill in the air and less daylight than normal, but you can still put a spring in your step.

Without further ado, here are 11 little ways you can treat yourself this winter:

  1. Get a facial

The freezing outside air mixed with artificial heating from radiators and air-conditioning can cause havoc with your skin during winter. Getting a facial can help to restore your skin’s natural moisture and glow and make you look and feel so much better in a little over an hour.

  1. Buy a new pillow

When did you last buy yourself a new pillow – years ago? Making sure you get a great night’s sleep is a nice little present to yourself during the long winter months. If your old pillow has lost a lot of its shape and cosiness, it’s time to get a new one.

  1. Book a short break

The festive period can really take it out of you. The months of planning for Christmas followed by the excitement and socialising of New Year are enough to make anyone feel a bit jaded. Booking a short pre-Christmas or post-New Year break, even for a night or two will help your state of mind and give you a fresh perspective.

  1. Try some essential oils

Burning essential oils is another great way to give yourself a ‘pick-me-up’ when you’re feeling affected by the cold weather. There are lots to choose from including orange blossom and grapefruit. These oils and the burners are inexpensive and work quickly to help give your senses a little lift.

  1. Go for a sauna

If you’ve got a bit of a winter cold and the temperature is below zero outside, heading to a sauna is a relaxing way to clear your head and warm yourself up. Just make sure you don’t stay in too long and keep hydrated afterwards.

  1. Discover Reiki

Reiki may not be something you’ve considered before, but it’s a gentle, non-invasive therapy that can help you feel much better in body, mind and spirit. Reiki helps restore your body’s natural energy, making it ideal for when you’re feeling in need of some TLC.

  1. Get pampered with a pedicure

Giving your feet a treat in winter time is a proven way to rejuvenate yourself, especially if you’ve got a job where you’re standing all day, or have been busy walking round shops looking for Christmas presents. Don’t forget the right footwear too, keeping your feet nice and cosy is also important.

  1. Learn to meditate

With Christmas parties, the big day itself, then New Year celebrations, December and January can be a really hectic period. Meditation may not be for everyone, but it’s growing in popularity all the time and a great way to take some time for yourself in the midst of a hectic world. There are apps available to help get you started from just 10 minutes a day.

  1. Take baths with Dead Sea salts

Bathing in water with Dead Sea salts will help you de-stress and unwind. Containing magnesium, calcium, potassium and bromides, Dead Sea salts make a warm, relaxing bath even more enjoyable, and a very pleasant way to spend a winter’s evening.

  1. Shop online

The Christmas rush at the shops can be a stressful experience for some. Why walk around the in the crowds, going in and out of the cold when you don’t have to? Put your fluffiest slippers on, grab a nice hot chocolate or glass of wine, get comfy on your sofa and browse for gifts from the tranquillity of your own home.

  1. Make time for a massage

Last, but not least, making time for a massage is one of the best little ways to treat yourself this winter. Hot lava shells are a particular favourite when it’s not too tropical outside and there are a range of Aspen treatments you can choose from.
